Remember Me

Shortly after a visit to Israel, I attended a communion service in a large mission home in Holland. On the wall hung a wreath made from a branch of a crown of thorns bush, which grows in Israel. The symbolism took on a new power. The bread and wine, with which we are so familiar, took on a new sense of cost. Jesus words as He gave thanks, shared out the bread and the wine and told them to “Do this in remembrance of Me”, must have been bewildering to the disciples as they sat with Him. Understanding came later. For us too, understanding is a progressive thing.
