Description
Samuel stands before King Saul in a tense prophetic confrontation, with an armed attendant behind them and the torn edge of a garment held between the men. The aged prophet’s covered head, grave face, and clasped vessel emphasize his role as the Lord’s messenger, while Saul’s reaching hand recalls the moment when he seized Samuel’s robe and it tore. In 1 Samuel 15, Saul’s disobedience concerning Amalek leads Samuel to declare that the kingdom has been torn from him and given to another who is better than he. The torn mantle becomes a visible sign of divine judgment: outward kingship cannot stand where obedience to God has been rejected. This artwork serves well for teaching on repentance, leadership, obedience, prophetic warning, and the tragic decline of Saul’s reign.
